Genealogy Tips: Finding Gravestones in a Military Cemetery

I wanted to take a picture of Daniel Clifford's gravesite the other day.

First, I did a quick search on GenealogyBank and pulled up Clifford's obituary, which told me that he is buried in the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown, Connecticut.

A quick search of the index of those buried in that cemetery, using the Nationwide Gravesite Locator website, shows us this:

Notice that he is buried at Section 81-G, Site 02.

That is a grid location that lets you easily find his grave.

After driving to the cemetery, I walked the rows and was able to quickly find tombstone 2 in Section 81-G. Notice that the stones have the location code engraved on the back of the tombstone.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' cemeteries are laid out in regular rows.

By going to section 81, and then row G, you will see that Daniel Clifford's tombstone is the second grave.
