Melissa is a genealogist who has a website, <a href=\"http:\/\/americana-archives.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">americana-archives.com<\/a>, and a Facebook group, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/HistoryGenNEFamilies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New England Family Genealogy and History<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Today I resume with my series \u201cMayflower Descendants: Who\u2019s Who,\u201d again focusing on the lineage of the Crocker family, who married into several <em>Mayflower<\/em> family lines.<\/p>\n<p>To recap: You can view the many articles already published of my research on Katie Crocker, daughter of James and Debra Sue (Pemberton) Crocker of Barnstable, Massachusetts, which includes several <em>Mayflower<\/em> passengers, <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/3xrY5KW\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stephen Hopkins<\/a>, Henry Samson, Elizabeth Tilley, Francis Cook, Esther\/Hester Mahieu, <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.genealogybank.com\/mayflower-descendants-whos-who-part-31-part-2.html\">John Howland<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.genealogybank.com\/mayflower-descendants-whos-who-part-32-part-2.html\">Edward Winslow<\/a>, by clicking on the links at the end of this article.<\/p>\n<p>The Crocker\u2019s were and still are a prominent family in Cape Cod and married into some of the oldest families of Plymouth.<\/p>\n<p>Recently I covered a story on <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.genealogybank.com\/mayflower-descendants-whos-who-part-41-part-1.html\">Edward Bangs, aka \u201cThe Pilgrim,\u201d<\/a> and found a connection in Katie\u2019s tree: a daughter Bethia Bangs (1650-1696) married Gershom Hall (1648-1732); their daughter Bethia Hall married Kenelm Winslow; their son Kenelm Winslow married Zerviah Rider; and their daughter, Katie\u2019s 6th great grandmother <a href=\"https:\/\/www.findagrave.com\/memorial\/6081866\/zerviah_crocker\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zerviah Winslow<\/a>, married Ebenezer Crocker.<\/p>\n<p>Along with her connection to <em>Mayflower<\/em> passenger Edward Winslow through his brother <a href=\"https:\/\/www.findagrave.com\/memorial\/22127060\/kenelm_winslow\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kenelm Winslow<\/a>, Katie has a direct line to Edward in another branch of her family tree.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a photo of the Winslow-Crocker house located in Old Barnstable (Yarmouth Port), Massachusetts, now owned by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.historicnewengland.org\/property\/winslow-crocker-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Historic New England<\/a>. Credit: Historic New England.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>For this article, I am sharing images from the Zenas Crocker Collection, which is housed at the Sturgis Public Library in Barnstable.<\/p>\n<p>The collection begins with Katie\u2019s 5th great grandfather Zenas Crocker (1760-1807), who married Hannah Bourne (1766-1833) and built and lived in the home that is now the <a href=\"https:\/\/cahoonmuseum.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cahoon Museum<\/a> on Route 28 in Cotuit, Massachusetts. He hosted the first meeting to establish a library, known as the Second Social Library of Barnstable, in 1796.<\/p>\n<p>This vast collection includes documents, maps, genealogy charts, and photographs \u2013 some dating back to early Plymouth.<\/p>\n<p>Katie\u2019s 3rd great grandfather, Zenas Crocker (1831-1898), son of Zenas and Rebecca Holly (Sampson) Crocker, married <a href=\"https:\/\/www.findagrave.com\/memorial\/64757806\/susan_agusta_crocker\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Susan Augusta Jones<\/a> (1834-1914), one of the seven daughters of Nathaniel and Abigail (Fish) Jones of Vermont.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_101580\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-101580\" style=\"width: 520px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-101580\" src=\"https:\/\/www.genealogybank.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/photo-0115-2025-zenas-crocker.jpg\" alt=\"Photo: Zenas Crocker. It reads:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This certifies that the rite of holy matrimony was celebrated between Mr. Zenas Crocker Jr. of Barnstable, Mass., and Miss Susan A. Jones of Sandwich, Mass., on July 18<sup>th<\/sup>, 1861, at Sandwich, Mass., by Rev. A. P. In it she writes about the weather, daily happenings, cooking, cleaning, picking berries, and traveling to visit friends and family. The closing pages are an account of household purchases. The diary has been transcribed by Laurel Gabel.<\/p>\n<p>Katie\u2019s 2nd great grandfather Zenas Crocker (1864-1963), born to Zenas and Susan, worked for the Barnstable County Clerk. You can read an obituary for Zenas Crocker, who died on 19 February 1963 at the age of 99 in Centerville, Massachusetts, in <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.genealogybank.com\/mayflower-descendants-whos-who-part-35-part-1.html\">Part 1<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He married Annie Jean McLean (1862-1920), daughter of Scottish immigrants Neil and Margaret (Thorn) McLean.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_101583\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-101583\" style=\"width: 507px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-101583\" src=\"https:\/\/www.genealogybank.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/photo-0115-2025-annie-crocker.jpg\" alt=\"Photo: Annie Jean (Mclean) Crocker. Nickerson, who died in Danvers, Massachusetts, on 26 February 2007.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Allied Families in the Crocker Line<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Hinckley family was connected to the Crocker family line. Credit: Sturgis Public Library.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I found a little anecdote on Zenas Marston in an article from the <em>Herald<\/em> by Sylvester Baxter entitled, \u201cThe Native Goes Back Again.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Captain Zenas Marston was the brother of the celebrated eating house man [Captain Russell Marston]. His premises were maintained in super shipshape fashion and the envy of all who passed by. His great woodpile was so neatly stacked it created a perfect wall. Apparently, Zenas\u2019 reputation for excessively high personal standards was well known by his crew, family, and friends.
