I found her!<\/p>\n

Here in GenealogyBank\u2019s Social Security Death Index (SSDI)<\/a>, I found the record for Marcia (Leavitt) Dyer.<\/p>\n

She was born on 27 September 1880 and died on 15 May 1968.<\/p>\n

But \u2013 Marcia Leavitt\u2019s online family tree said she was born 31 March 1881. Why aren\u2019t these records matching up with each other?<\/p>\n

Were there two different Marcia Leavitts \u2013 born within months of each other? I needed to find out.<\/p>\n

So I retraced the research others had done.<\/p>\n

Look closely at her birth certificate. I think I\u2019ve found the source of the confusion.<\/p>\n

It doesn\u2019t say that she was born on that date \u2013 it says her birth was \u201creported for year ending Mar. 31, 1881\u201d \u2013 but no specific date was given. Some family historian had probably seen this record and entered that date on her family tree as her actual birth date.<\/p>\n
