I was looking at the posts on Facebook about my old hometown \u2013 Stamford, Connecticut \u2013 and spotted this painting of a scene just a few blocks from my home.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve walked past that mill many times heading to the beaches in the Cove section of Stamford. Winter, summer \u2013 it didn\u2019t matter. The Cove was where we headed.<\/p>\n

Notice the old grist mill stones and oversize gears leaning against the mill. They were still there when I was a kid, just as the artist rendered them in this old painting.<\/p>\n

I wanted to learn more about the painting and the artist, so I turned to Google. Interesting \u2013 I found no reference to this painting.<\/p>\n

Turning to GenealogyBank\u2019s Historical Newspaper Archives<\/a>, I searched for the painter and the name of this painting \u2013 and quickly found this article.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s interesting \u2013 the original name of this painting was \u201cBass Fishing at the Cove.\u201d<\/p>\n

And I agree with the newspaper article\u2019s comment:<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026those who have been at the Cove will at once recognize the resemblance of the picture to the scenery in that neighborhood.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
