In reviewing the prison inmates at the Ulster County Jail he was surprised to find that 17 of them were members of one family.<\/p>\n<p>He began a genealogical study and found that the Jukes family descended from a man named \u201cMax Jukes,\u201d who was born in New York in the early 1700s. The Jukes family tree grew to 1,500 criminals or other relatives\u2014many of whom had a history of trouble with the law or with society in general.<\/p>\n<p>According to Wikipedia the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Jukes_family\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jukes family study<\/a> was picked up by Arthur H.
