Melissa is a genealogist who has a blog, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ancestoryarchives.com\/\" class=\"broken_link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AnceStory Archives<\/a>, and a Facebook group, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/HistoryGenNEFamilies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New England Family Genealogy and History<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Today I continue exploring the Nantucket, Massachusetts, scrapbook digitized by the Nantucket Historical Association that features fond memorabilia on the families who lived on the island. Many of the subjects are the offshoots of <em>Mayflower<\/em> passengers.<\/p>\n<p>The scrapbook was compiled by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americana-archives.com\/post\/scrapbook-of-dr-george-danford-richmond-nantucket-massachusetts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. George Danford Richmond<\/a> (1875-1939), a former member of the Nantucket Historical Society.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alden Hammond Adams (1820-1910)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My last story featured Captain Alden Hammond Adams and his wife. Alden was the son of Alpheus Adams and Abigail Winslow Wing, and a descendant of <em>Mayflower<\/em> passengers <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/3BVNvMC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">William Brewster<\/a> and Thomas Rogers. Courtesy of the Nantucket Historical Association.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On 1 January 1910 Alden celebrated 65 years of marriage to Electra Morton Hinckley Adams (1822-1910), born to Heman Hinckley and Prudence Bourne, and a descendant of <em>Mayflower<\/em> passengers <a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/3H83vAd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John Howland<\/a> and Elizabeth Tilley.<\/p>\n<p>In the same year as that special event, Alden and Electra both passed away. Courtesy of the Nantucket Historical Association.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>According to this obituary, Alden came to Nantucket as a small boy to work on the farms owned by Edward Cary and, later, Prince Gardner. At the age of 15, Alden\u2019s maritime career began. He accompanied his brother <a href=\"https:\/\/www.findagrave.com\/memorial\/112264960\/freeman-e-adams\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Capt. Freeman E. Adams<\/a> on a deep-sea voyage, then later commanded his own ships. This obituary reported:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>He then followed \u2018\u2018boating\u2019\u2019 at Nantucket, and for years was pioneer of the local boatmen, being well known to residents. and summer visitors as the venerable skipper of the catboat L. Roberta (now sailed by his son) which has the most years of service to her credit of any boat in the Nantucket fleet. The sign \u2018\u2018A. H. Adams \u2013 Oil Clothing\u2019\u2019 is still noticeable on the front of the building on Steamboat wharf, and although for several years the condition of his health prevented him from visiting \u201cthe shanty\u2019\u2019 on the wharf, except upon rare occasions, he always maintained a keen interest in the happenings along the waterfront, his memory and intellect remaining alert to the very last.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"attachment_96363\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-96363\" style=\"width: 956px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.genealogybank.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/photo-1208-2023-adams-boat-house.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-96363\" src=\"https:\/\/www.genealogybank.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/photo-1208-2023-adams-boat-house.jpg\" alt=\"Photo: Adams Boat House at Adams Slip on Steamboat Wharf, Nantucket, where oiled clothing was available for sale or rent. Courtesy of the Nantucket Historical Association.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Joseph Myrick Folger (1815-1895)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Joseph Myrick Folger, a Nantucket farmer, was born to Peleg Folger and Sarah Addington. He was a direct descendant of Phinehas Pratt and Mary Priest (daughter of <em>Mayflower<\/em> passenger <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.genealogybank.com\/mayflower-hat-maker-degory-priest.html\">Degory Priest<\/a>), as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/2X24RoU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tristram Coffin<\/a>, George Bunker, Peter Folger, Richard Pinkham, Joseph Grafton, and Thomas Gardner. Folger purchased the Quaise farm of his uncle Hiram Folger.
