History of Connecticut

Situated along the Atlantic coast, Connecticut was among America’s 13 founding colonies. The state’s early beginnings consisted of an agricultural community, which later transformed into a booming textile manufacturing hub during the Industrial Revolution. Connecticut was known for their advanced technology in their machinery, and became a powerful player for many companies within the manufacturing industry.

Connecticut also gained respect as an intellectual and educational state after Yale University was built in New Haven. This Ivy League university was among the first top three higher education establishments in the United States.

Due to the expansive manufacturing industry, there was a high demand for labor, which attracted Irish, Italian, and English immigrants during the 1900’s. Also during this time, railroads were established bringing in a whole new industry to fuel the economy. By the 20th century, Connecticut had become a well-established and industrial state for both locals and immigrants.
