A 22-Year-Old Mother of 10 Children!
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Stanislaus Spychalski, proud parents of 10 children. Married at the age of 15, Mrs. Spychaslski had quadruplets, a set of twins, a set of triplets, and once gave birth to a single child, a son. She had an aunt who gave birth to quintuplets.
In this picture Mrs. Spychalski—ever the vigilant mother—is seen holding the recently-born quads while keeping her eyes peeled on the other six children.
Sedan Lance (Sedan, Kansas), 2 April 1903, page 6.
Although only 22, Mrs. Spychalski was obviously an experienced mother at an early age. No wonder this newspaper article concludes: "Mrs. Spychalski is considered a marvel by medical men, and her interesting family has received a great deal of attention from them and from others."
