How do I search within a single state or multiple states at once?
To search within a specific state, select the state from the drop-down menu under 'Advanced Search' on the main Search page. You can select as many states as you would like. You can remove a selection by clicking it again to unselect it. Note that all states will be searched if no selection is made. You can also search an individual state by clicking the state on the green map. Note that you are not able to search multiple states at once using this method but can easily search within a city or publication. (See: How do I search a specific city or multiple cities at once?) After a search has been executed, you can add or remove states in the left-hand column on the search results page.
How do I search within a single city or title?
To search within a specific city, select the state on the green map then select the city from the list that appears below the search form. Once a city is selected the titles within that city will also appear. You can refine your search further by clicking on the newspaper title and searching within that title.
To search multiple cities at once, first select the state from the dropdown menu under 'Advanced Search' on the main Search page. Click search. Once on the search results page you can select multiple cities in the left hand column. To search within multiple titles at once, first select the state from the drop-down menu under 'Advanced Search' on the main Search page. Click search. Once on the search results page select the city in which the title was published. Click 'Update Results'. You will now see a list of all newspaper titles within that city. You can select a single title or multiple.
How do I remove the highlight from an article?
Click the remove highlight button in the top right corner of the image viewer. Note that highlights will not appear when printing or downloading articles.
How do I print an entire article or a portion of an article?
Click the print icon in the top right corner of the image viewer. Choose whether you want to print the current page or a portion of the page. Selecting current page will print the entire newspaper page or article. You can also select a specific portion of the page or article. To print a selected portion, click 'Clip a Portion'. Using the blue box that appears, select the portion of the page you would like to print by dragging the corners of the blue box up or down, left or right. Once you've selected the area you would like printed, click the 'Print' button. The print dialogue box should then appear. Click 'Print'.
How do I download an entire article or a portion of an article?
Click the download icon in the top right corner of the image viewer. Choose whether you want to download the current page or a portion of the page. Selecting current page will download the entire newspaper page or article or you can select a portion of the article. Then select your preferred file format which is either a .PDF or Image File. The image file format will be either JPEG or PNG. The file format cannot be changed from JPEG to PNG or from PNG to JPEG.
How do I save an entire article or a portion of an article to My Folder?
To save an entire article to your My Folder click the 'Add to My Folder' icon in the top right corner of the image viewer. The article can then be viewed in My Folder under 'Saved Articles'. If you would like to save a portion of an article to My Folder click the Scissor icon in the top right corner of the image viewer. Select the portion of the article and click 'Save'. The article can be viewed in your My Folder under 'Saved Clippings'. When viewing 'Saved Clippings' the entire page will be visible with the clipped portion highlighted. To print or download the clipping, you must select the print or download icon and highlight the portion you wish to print or download.
How do I share an article?
To share an article via email click the 'Share' icon in the top right hand corner of the image viewer. Enter the recipient's email address and click 'Share This Image'. The link to the article will then be emailed to the recipient. The recipient does not have to be a member of GenealogyBank in order to view the article.
