ROOSEVELT VISITS PRAIRIE VIEW PRAIRIE VIEW, March 31 — (ANP)—Mrs. Franklin Delano Roos evelt, "First Lady" of the United States, was given a generous recep tion by Principal W. R. Banks, fa culty and students, when she made a special visit* to Prairie View State college on her lecturing tour in Tex as last week. Mrs. Roosevelt made an inspection of the entile college plant at Prairie I View. WELL KNOWN KANSAN DIES AT ATCHISON ATCHISON, Kansas. — Frank Briggs of this city died Friday, March 17th at the home of his son, Clyde Briggs, 9d8 S. 5th Street. He had been in failing health for several months but was only confined to his bed one day before his passing. He was bom In Bowling Green, Kentucky but had been a resident of Kansas most of his life. Mr. Briggs married M ss Emma Cushenberry of th's city more than fifty years ago. She preceded him in death in 1938. Mr. Briggs was a member of tbe po Ice force for a number of years in Atchison and later he served for sev eral years during the sessions of the Legislature. Surviving him, be sides his son, Clyde Briggs, a mail carrier, are a grandson, Wilson Briggs, Jr., coach at Western Univer sity, a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Camilla Briggs, and other relatives. Funeral services were held at Campbe 1 Chap el AME Church Monday, March 29th with the Rev. C. W. Lowe, officiat ing. J. D. Colbert had charge of the funeral. A number of out-of-town friends were present at the funeral. GROUP HEARS THELMA THURSTON Members of the Adult Education Group met Tuesday and again Thurs day, March Jlst and 23rd. At the Thursday meeting guest speakers were Miss Thelma Rea Thurston, who was seeking nomination for a place on the School Board, and Chester (Chet) Smith who was seek ing a similar place. Mr. Smith was introduced by Mr. Dyster. Each week a member of the Adult Group of Teachers is presenting a review of subjects being taught. Teachers Included in the Adult Ed ucation group sponsored by the Gov ernment are as follows: Mr. Wade Knox, supervisor; Mr. C. A. Lannl- gan, Mrs. Gladys Thompson, Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Maybelle Ross, Mr. Knight, Mrs. Groves, Mrs. Sallie Horton, Mrs. Martin, Mr. Hackney, Mr. C. Browne, Rev.
