Description: 2-A; KTVG
TV station From Page 1-A casting with the help of Hill, who paid for installation of the antenna and transmitter. ; Hill gave the financial help for • the right to have an option to pur chase Channel 17 after it began 1 broadcasting, and he has decided •lo exercise that option, Mont gomery said. The station is being purchased for $61,000. I George Singleton will become the general manager of Channel 17. Singleton has been general manag er of the NBC affiliate in Monroe, La. Before that he was general manager of the CBS affiliate in the Montgomery/Selma, Ala., area. ■ Singleton said he will be moving to Grand Island once the sale is fi nalized. Montgomery said FCC ap : ; proval could come in as little as three to fourVeeks, but Singleton said it is difficult to predict how soon approval might be given. Singleton said he and Hill would like to put Fox programming on Channel 17. He said Fox would be a logical programming choice be cause there is no Fox affiliate in Central Nebraska now. However, he said, ‘You’re limit ed on what can be done before the change in ownership is approved. We cannot do anything until we take possession of the property.” “Right now, Fox does not even know we exist,” Singleton said. In the meantime, Channel 17 will be showing the same mixture of old television shows, movies and car toons. Montgomery said he has notified TCI Cablevision that Channel 17 wants to be carried on cable in Grand Island. Under FCC rules, ca ble systems must carry the local channel once it makes an official request Singleton said a number of changes will be made once the new ownership is in place. The broadcast tower, now locat ed just south of Cedar Hollow school, will be moved. An engineer ing study has been done on the best location for a new tower. Singleton also said a Grand Is land office will be opened up and lo cal sales people will be hired. He said it is doubtful that the offices will be located in the same place as the broadcast tower. Often the best place to broadcast a television sig nal does not coincide with the best place to locate an office, which needs to be closer to advertisers.
