Badness, in the form of ad vertising dollars, Daniels pointed out, so far is good. To entice more people to turn on Vusic rather than MTV, the station will air videos by local groups. A video request line is also being planned. “We will have all the current hits,” Daniels said, “but we plan to expose new artists as well that may not have the chance on a radio station. “People will be seeing major artists on Vusic — we’ve had no trouble getting videos from all the labels — but Fm also going to go into an area of exposing relatively new talent. “Since there is no competition for us in Las Vegas, it leaves us open to expose new talent We’re in the posi tion to be the leader.” Vusic will branch out — syndication plans already are drawn up, according to Daniels. The pro grams are syndicated to two markets. Atlanta and San Francisco, “and we’re hoping to expand to six.” Vusic also has on the boards two syndicated video shows, but Daniels said the rest of the programming will be live. Despite these programs, Daniels said Vusic is net actually competing with MTV. “We’re not competing; there is a totally different dement with MTV. They are on a national scale and they do an excellent job local level; we can be a companion to MTV.” With a 400,OOO-watt station that Daniels says constitutes the stron gest signal in Nevada, Vusic could conceivably reach half a million households. And since it’s free, it has another edge over MTV, which has monthly charges. “This is a new horizon, totally new,” Daniels said. “In 25 years of broadcasting Fve never done any thing like this. It’s a challenge. I couldn’t resist it. I fdt this was the element of broadcasting that wiO be five years down the road for every body.
