Fox makes it official: Programming moving from KASN to KLRT Fox turned 16 Wednesday. As reported Tuesday and Wednesday morning, the Fox Broadcasting Co. officially took its network - On ths Air Paul Johnson affiliation away from KASN, Channel 38, and gave it to KLRT, Channel 16. Channel 16 will begin broad casting Fox programs Saturday, April 28. David Ferrara, regional vice president for affiliate relations for Fox, told a Little Rock pieas conference the decision to switch affiliates wee baaed on an evaluation of presentations by KLRT and KASN. “Little Rod is the fust mar ket where we at Fox conducted an intense analysis of television stations and decided to change our affiliation,” Ferrara said in a press release. Beginning April 28 KLRT will broadcast six hours of Fox pro grams on Saturday, Sunday and Monday nights. The shows in dude certified ratings hits such as The Simpaome cartoon show and the sitcom Married ... With CBUna, both on Sun day nights. “We hope to add Fox shows on Wednesday and Friday nights by the end of the year,” add Joe Swsty, station manager at KLRT. Ferrara said Fox planned to have a Movie of the Week on Wednesday nights. This would include original movies pro duced by Fox phis theatrical releasee produced by Fox’* movie studio. Friday night programs would be a mix of comamaa and dra mas, Ferrara said. He also said Fox was develop ing a nightly newscast that would be offered to affiliates in 1991. He said this would not be a newscast similar to the ones produced by ABC, CBS end NBC but probably would in clude newt segments that the affiliates could use according to their needs. Fox also plans a block of chil dren’s programs Cor Saturday mornings, negilining next AeM, Ferrara said. Swaty said obtaining the Fox programming would lead Chan nel 16 to drop some of its lees- popular programs and move some of its highly rated shows into new time periods. “When the ratings tell us the viewers don’t like a certain show we will now have the flexibility to drop that show,” Swaty said. “The key is to keep our pro gramming fresh."
